A Life Well Lived

This is my daddy-

Tomorrow he will be celebrating 92 years!

To say that my sister and I are thankful for him would be an understatement. His life of faith and family, hard work and dedication, care and loyalty for family- has made it easy for us to trust our heavenly father because  our dad has given us a picture of godliness- for a lifetime.

Dementia takes him a little farther away from us with each day that passes, and we find ourselves with more questions than answers when it comes to the body outliving the mind and God’s presence, provision, and purpose in this season.

Honestly, a lot of days we’re tired . . . and busy . . . and torn . . . wanting to honor and please the Lord in the way we care for our daddy and yet at the same time wanting to live fully the lives God has given us as well.

I know this is a struggle many people face, and there is nothing easy about it. I have a good many PICs that I’ve written to guide and help me through this season. Today I’m sharing one that I hope will help those of you who may be journeying this path as well.

Today I’m thankful for God’s truth and the assurance it provides. I’m asking Him to use His word to redirect my thinking . . . and help me trust He will do what He says-

I want to apply his word to my heart and practice it, so I’m praying I’ll be able to follow Nehemiah’s instruction when he said to the people-

“Go and enjoy . . . this day is sacred to our LORD.
Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10

As we celebrate another year- that includes what many people have termed “the long goodbye,” I’m asking God to fill me with joy and praying that I’ll trust God’s promise to carry us through- knowing that there is not and will not be a moment where He fails.

Are you on a similar journey today- finding the fact that none of us are getting any younger a challenge? Isaiah 46:4 offers truth for you to know- He will carry you through as well!
