This is the Day

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved words- how they work together in phrases and sentences, with definition and sound- how they succinctly make a point or express a creative thought to ponder- to me it’s a beautiful thing!

img_1590I have loved and collected books that capture the beauty of words and can remember getting albums like Tapestries of Life by Guideposts from my Aunt Animeda, another lover of words, of phrases, of poetry, and writing that made you think.

I guess for almost as long, I’ve had a desire to bring words into my life- either through study, teaching, or to simply read and enjoy.  Also, burning faintly in the background was the desire to bring my own words to life- in some way or form- but I never really quite knew the avenue or means to make that happen.

And life has a way of filling itself up with so many good things- family, friendship, work, and ministry to name a few. So the dream and the words were pushed to the side, and life was lived in the moment.

But then God . . .

With his light . . .  relit the dream in my heart about a year ago. He changed my perspective and encouraged me through the words and prayers of many . . . He even changed my schedule on Mondays so that I could block time to obey Him in this-

To learn how to put words out there- to begin writing Daily PICs for Life– a place God has created where I can share words- of truth, of life, of encouragement, of prayer.

I’m stepping out of the boat . . . following Him in obedience in this . . .

Trusting to see what He will do-

One thing is certain-

RedTriagleFlagHe has already given me another learning in developing a “Hallelujah” Perspective and finding His bounty this year. It’s in the place of obedience . . . when you do the thing that He has put on your heart to do . . . even when it’s hard and scares you to death- that is where His bounty is.

So will you join me?

Today is the day-

Get out of the boat and join God in what He is calling you to do.

I would be remiss if I did not stop to thank some people who are very dear to me and have specifically prayed courage into me- Jane Mitchell and Paula Streger- I most likely would not have done this without your words of truth and prayers.

To the Morning Break Bible study ladies of First Baptist Simpsonville- you have kindly read my devotional emails through the course of this last year and a half and have boldly encouraged me to pursue this thing of writing words down for people to read. I am ever grateful for the opportunity to lead and study with you every Wednesday morning.

And to my beautiful niece Jenna who has gone ahead and shown me what it looks like to put a dream and a love out there- with her own Sursy Paper . I could have never figured out how to make the index card work without your help, and your beautiful designs make me look so much smarter and modern than I really am. I am proud of you and all you have done. Thank you for adding your creativity to my little space on web!

I have come to love the music of Anthem Lights. Their beautiful rendition of All Creatures of our God and King seems to be a fitting way to close. You can enjoy by following the link in the song title.

  4. I happened across your blog today and what you wrote about words resonated with me. I love words too. They have been something that I have enjoyed since I found a creative writing class back in High School, 20 something years ago. In the past 5 years or so I have begun to realize just how much words mean to me. God has given me a great love for words, one that I want to share with others, only I don’t exactly know how, only that is is a desire of mine. One that I believe comes from God. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that you are not the only lover of words out there, especially since reading this on your blog has provided me with such joy. Thanks for sharing.
