In A Little While

My study in Haggai with Jennifer Rothschild has challenged my view of waiting on God. In his second sermon, Haggai is encouraging the people to be strong and work, knowing that God is with them. They are to finish rebuilding the temple even as they feel it in no way compares to the previous one that had been destroyed.

In verse 6 Haggai says,

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty.”
Haggai 2:6-9 (NIV)

This is a powerful word of encouragement to the people. God will bring together and provide all the resources needed to complete the work- after all, the resources and power are His! He promises to fill this temple with his glory and assures the people that it will be a greater glory than the splendor of the previous temple. In this place, He will give them peace.

While this is good news, a challenge comes with these brief words- “In a little while,” and it’s one all of us understand. God’s provision and promise will come in a little while, thus- a season of in the meantime and waiting! Continue reading “In A Little While”

Moving On

This past weekend our youngest son moved to Philadelphia for a new job within his company.  Wally and I accompanied him on the long trek north from Charlotte, driving his car behind the truck he rented to transport all his belongings. Even though he’s well familiar with the city due to many trips there for work already and excited about this new chapter of life, my heart has been upside down as we’ve anticipated his move.

I wanted to follow the sign as we pulled out of his neighborhood. I wanted to STOP. I wanted him to STOP. Return to the familiar . . . the known community . . . the good and fruitful life God had blessed him with in Charlotte. Continue reading “Moving On”

‘Littles’ and ‘Bigs’

Today, I thought I’d share some of the PICs that have been in my journal recently.

While I don’t have any ‘littles’ in my immediate family at the moment, I do have a few that I am praying for on a regular basis. Luke 2:52 is a short and simple verse- describing the way Jesus grew, during the time his care was entrusted here on this earth to earthly parents and extended family. Outside My Window

At my core, I’m an introvert. I  need and enjoy moments of quiet when I can find them. I remember as a child, sitting at my bedroom window, content to watch the world outside.

And I find myself repeating this pattern even now. I go to the living room every morning for my quiet time, and if I’m not careful, time can get away from me as I gaze out the window, watching and listening to the world wake and the day dawn. Continue reading “Outside My Window”

All the Difference

In an earlier post, I relayed my love for words- how they work together in phrases and sentences, with definition and sound- succinctly making a point or relaying a truth to ponder.

The American poet, Robert Frost was a master with words, and the last stanza of one of my favorite poems of his comes to mind quite often-

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
“The Road Not Taken”
