Partners in Joy

When I have occasion to write a note of thanks, quite often Philippians 1:3 comes to mind, and many times I’ll include it in the text-

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy . . .

As Paul greets the Philippians, he wants them to know how much they mean to him. In fact, they serve as a source of joy as he remembers his partnership with them and God’s good work in them. Continue reading “Partners in Joy”

Learning Contentment

Dictionary.com defines contentment as “the state of being satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else.” In its highest and best form, the contented one is satisfied and fulfilled, at its lowest, comfortable and complacent.

Remembering the Sacrifice

In recent years I’ve had the privilege to know a man I call “Q”. He immigrated from Vietnam and is now a United States citizen along with many in his family. His pride and gratitude to live, work, and raise a family in America inspires me every time we chat. His journey to citizenship required much time and sacrifice, but it’s one he values and appreciates deeply. He is devoted to hard work, including learning the language, and expects his children do the same.

In our world of flawed systems and bad news, he represents every good ideal our nation stands for and fights to pursue more effectively. Continue reading “Remembering the Sacrifice”
