Today I’m taking a look back at the why behind Daily PICs. While it’s an endeavor God clearly led me to start, sometimes the discipline required to continue moving forward is hard to muster.
The first step of obedience requires faith; the steps to continue involve discipline.
When discipline wanes, it’s important to remember what was true at the start. My devotional reading this morning confirmed this with a challenge from 2 Timothy 3:14–
But as for you, continue in what you learned and have become convinced of –
What I have learned and become convinced of is that writing Prayer Index Cards and praying God’s Word is a powerful and effective tool! It has been the key to unlocking the abundant and victorious life that is promised and found in Jesus. This is the life I long for and that I want for you as well!
I have learned and am convinced that Psalm 119:92-93 is true-
If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts for by them you have given me life.
Left to my own thinking and plans, I would have perished. God’s Word gives me life and keeps my life! His Word is my wisdom, understanding, insight, light, and joy. (Psalm 119: 98-100, 105, 111)
Still, there are times when I look to other things instead, so I’ve developed a card to help me with some heart checks-

While none or these are wrong investments of time, when I misplace them, they become empty idols that fall short every time, leaving me feeling lack instead of life!
The daily discipline of speaking God’s Word and praying it has helped me apply the wisdom of Proverbs 4:20-23–
My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (NIV)
God’s Word is life to those who find it. As this PIC relays-

God’s Word teaches us, encourages us, and gives us hope. It must be my first and most treasured investment!
Praying today that you will find and invest your life in the Word of Life!
